BROWNDENS ROAD

Historical Perspective
Before the building of the existing houses in 1971, (information from Gary), Browndens Road was just a track, surrounded by fields leading to St Lawrence’s Church.    The church was situated where the Jubilee Hall  is now and was constructed of corrugated iron similar to the Baptist Chapel in Vicarage Road.  The Jubilee Hall  was built in 1978 to commemorate the  (Queen Elizabeth’s Jubilee Year 1977).
The trial pit near the church was filled in, in about the late nineteen fifties and the houses and road were built about ten years later.  (Note the pit and St Lawrence’s Church on the 1930s Ordnance Survey map on the map page of the website).
